Lecture 3

The Legal Process

The trial, which we covered in Lecture 2, is the climax of a long and exhaustive process by which the parties and the court determine who is involved, what issues need to be decided, and what evidence is available. We will examine that process in this lecture. As an addendum, we will have a brief discussion on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a non-legal method of resolving disputes that (supposedly) is quicker, faster, and cheaper than the formal legal process.

Materials: Review Miller & Jentz, Chapter 2 (Dispute Resolution) and read my summary. These are the slides for the lecture. The lecture itself will be available as a downloadable file during and after the TTh 12-2 class meeting.

Assignment: Do the Trial Assignment by 20 November.
